WVUMedicine THANK YOU HEROES CELEBRATING NATIONAL NURSES WEEK MAY 6-12 Each year, National Nurses Week begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightengale's birthday. Known for work during the Crimean War, Nightengale changed the profession of nursing. Our personal and professional lives underwent changes unlike any the majority of us had seen in our lifetime. We had to alter the way we care for our patients. But, our nurses held the line. This year, a different kind of battle began - one that hit all over the world, including right here at home. They manned testing sites, took posts at our entrances to safeguard our staff and patients, and cared for people with all sorts of conditions, not the least of which was a novel virus we had never seen before. They are our Florence Nightengales. During this Nurses Week, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for our team of dedicated nurses. Thank you for the incredible work you do every day.
