Dr. Laura Capage is a licensed psychologist in Morgantown, wV who specializes in working with children and families. She is also the founding Executive Director of Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center (MCCAC) which opened in 2005. The Center is a nonprofit agency that provides free services to children who have been abused or experienced other adverse childhood experiences. Along with her dedicated coworkers, she works to build resiliency in children so that they are happy, healthy, and have bright futures. Working at the MCCAC is her dream job because it combines her two passions helping children and working to improve systems. During this difficult time in our community the MCCAC is an essential service. We along with many of our multidisciplinary team members are still open serving children. Child abuse is an issue in our state, especially during this time. With children at home during the novel coronavirus outbreak, many are facing a heightened risk of abuse and neglect. We anticipate a surge in reports after the pandemic given isolation and stress factors. Even for healthy families, stress can be a factor during this pandemic. Establishing a daily routine with children at home can help maintain normalcy. The MCCAC is available to provide education or tips for all families in Monongalia County. Please follow us on Facebook or check out our website at www.moncocac.org for support.
