The Eye Foundation of America, founded in Morgantown, WV by Dr. VK Raju, is dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness in West Virginia and around the world. The World Health Organization estimates that: Approximately 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide About 80% of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured #90% of the world's visually impaired live in a low-income setting .Roughly 19 mlion children under the age of 15 are visually impaired The Eye Foundation of America combats avoidable blindness through: Prevention The Eye Foundation of America delivers vitamin A supplements to children for just a few cents per dose and providing corrective glasses for $20 per pair in 25 countries around the world. Surgery Surgical cataract removal can be performed in minutes by volunteer surgeons (costs a few hundred dollars) Education Diabetes prevention and healthy lifestyle education (in collaboration with the WVU Extension Service) in West Virginia through the "Kid Coupon" program.
